Greenleaf Biofuels to Build New Plant at New Haven Terminal

Dow Realty represented Greenleaf Biodiesel, LLC in its lease of land and building at New Haven Terminal. The lease opened the door to the groundbreaking for a new 8,500 SF plant that will produce biodiesel fuel from reclaimed and used vegetable oil from restaurants and food manufacturers.

The New Haven Terminal location is an ideal fit for Greenleaf due to its access to rail, a deep water port, tank farm storage and fuel truck loading capability. The company plans to ultimately produce 10 million gallons per year of multi-feedstock biodiesel fuel in what would be the largest production facility of its kind in New England. Production is planned to start in 2012 and initially provide 20 new full time jobs in New Haven. Additional jobs will be added within the next 3-5 years.

Biodiesel is a blend of the vegetable oil product and diesel fuel which is a substitute for No. 2 heating oil. Greenleaf’s mission is to meet the growing regional demand for biodiesel in home heating and transportation fuels, to provide energy security and to promote environmental responsibility.
